Commentary
And when the delay in forbidding the wrong is a turning away from the commands, even if the one delaying is striving in action, he said, emphasizing to alert to the severity of the matter due to the multitude of enemies and the continuation of harm and aggression: "And let them not turn you away"; meaning: the disbelievers with their exaggeration in turning away and their saying: "If only he were given like what was given to Moses" [Al-Qasas: 48] and similar to it,
"From the signs of Allah"; meaning: from proclaiming it, and it is of the one characterized by the attributes of perfection, in the times that occur "after it has been revealed"; meaning: the occurrence of its revelation from whom you know it has ended "to you" from what you see of its commands and prohibitions. And indeed, this meaning has been clarified by His saying: "And invite"; meaning: establish the invitation for the people "to your Lord"; meaning: the One who has done good to you for His goodness towards you, and His turning towards you without the creation. And it is free from emphasis, sufficing with what is possible, for indeed the action is not for exaggeration in it truly, indicating that bringing about benefits is easier than repelling harms, for indeed the desired in it is limited by avoidance.
And when the silent one regarding the doer of the wrong is a partner to him, he said, emphasizing to alert to the concern of repelling harms, and that there must be reaching the goal: "And do not be among the polytheists"; meaning: counted among them by leaving to forbid them from their polytheism and what results from it even for a single moment.
