Commentary
For this reason, he caused and followed up on their good advice and his harsh response, his saying, glorified and exalted is He, is evidence of his crime and his tyranny in his sins: "So he went out to his people"; that is, those who advised him to be moderate in his affairs and to be generous to his brothers. Then he mentioned his state, magnifying it by saying: "in his adornment"; that is, which is suitable for what we have mentioned of his wealth and his pride in his perfection from his actions and words.
And when it was as if it was said: What did his people say? It was said: "Those who desire"; that is, they are in a position where it is renewed from them that they desire "the worldly life" due to their low ambitions and limited vision on the transient, because they are people of ignorance, even if their saying is from the perspective of envy and not from the envy that is the wish for the removal of the blessing of the envied: "Oh, if only we had"; that is, we wish for a great wish that we be given from any giver and in any manner that was "like what was given to Qarun" of this adornment and what it caused of knowledge, so that we would not cease to be owners of wealth. Then they magnified it by their saying, confirming their knowledge that whoever desires the Hereafter denies them: "Indeed, he has a great share"; that is, a portion and luck in this world "because of what he was given of the knowledge that was a cause for him to all this wealth.
