Commentary

And when he gave them the glad tidings of their empowerment in a context indicating their capability, he made it clear by saying: ﴿And We will establish﴾ meaning: We will bring about the establishment ﴿for them in the earth﴾ meaning: all of it, especially the land of Egypt and the Levant, by destroying their enemies and supporting them with the words of Allah, then with the prophets after him, blessings and peace be upon him, whereby We will empower them because of them over others by what We support them with from the angels and show them of the miracles.

And when he mentioned the establishment, he mentioned that it is with the overcoming of the tyrants, indicating that it is the greatest empowerment. He said [adding to the meaning of: And We want to take those who have risen in the earth, namely Pharaoh and Haman and their soldiers]: ﴿And We will show﴾ meaning: by what We have of greatness ﴿Pharaoh﴾ meaning: the one from whom this oppression was [this] weakness ﴿and Haman﴾ his minister ﴿and their soldiers﴾ who were able to reach what they wanted of corruption through them ﴿from among them﴾ meaning: the oppressed ﴿what they were﴾ meaning: with great seriousness from them as if it were an instinct ﴿they are cautious﴾ meaning: they renew their caution at all times with utmost seriousness and diligence from the loss of their kingdom by a newborn among them and what follows that. Al-Baghawi said: And caution is the precaution from harm. [And the verse is from the intertwining: he mentioned the oppression first as evidence of strength secondly, and the desire for the forbidden secondly as evidence of the desire for the beloved first, and the secret of that is that he mentioned the consolation and the hope to encourage patience and the regularity of relief.]
