And when He negated the initial cause for knowledge of that generality, then the subsequent cause for knowledge of the details of those events and actions, He negated the subsequent cause for knowledge of the rulings and the establishment of the Shari'ah with what is in it of stories, admonitions, lawful and unlawful matters, burdens, and shackles by His saying: "And when you were not on the side of the mount when We called"; meaning: at the time when "We called"; meaning: We made the call to Musa, blessings and peace be upon him. So We gave him the Torah and informed him of what cannot be known except by Us or by him. It is well-known that you did not have knowledge of any of that from him, because you did not associate with anyone who carried those reports from Musa, blessings and peace be upon him, nor did anyone carry them from those who carried them from him. However, that was to you from Us, and this is the meaning of His saying: "But"; meaning: We sent down what We wanted of it and from others to you and We revealed it to you and sent you with it to the creatures "as a mercy from your Lord"; specifically for you and generally for the creation "that you may warn"; meaning: to warn, a great warning "a people"; meaning: a people of strength and might, who have no barrier from great good deeds, nor from turning away from you, and they are the Arabs, and those in that time from the creation "what has come to them" and about what is negated by the addition of the preposition in His saying: "from a warner"; meaning: from them, and they are the ones intended by sending him to them. Otherwise, the messengers of Musa, blessings and peace be upon him, had already come to them, then the messengers of 'Isa, blessings and peace be upon him. And if the matter of Khalid ibn Sinan al-Absii is correct, he would be a prophet who is not a messenger, or he would be a messenger to his people, the Banu Abs, specifically. His calling to others, if it occurred, would be in the context of enjoining good in general, not specifically as a messenger. So the estimation would be: a warner from them in general, and the addition of the preposition in His saying: "before you" indicates a near time, which is the time of the interval. As for what was before that, they were upon the religion of Ibrahim, blessings and peace be upon him, until 'Amr ibn Luhay changed it. Indeed, they were warned in those times by Ibrahim, blessings and peace be upon him, then by Isma'il, blessings and peace be upon him, then by those after them from the righteous of their descendants until the time of 'Amr ibn Luhay. They were blind due to the lack of a warner, wandering from guidance, following the path of ruin. And He said: "Perhaps they will remember"; for the like of what has preceded, that if they accept what you have brought and contemplate it, I will remind them with a clear reminder - with what has been indicated by the manifestation - of what is in their minds from its evidence, even if it does not stand alone without it. And Allah is the Grantor of success.
