Commentary
And when he informed about this condition, he informed about its consequence; he said in the manifestation of greatness, because the context is to clarify the highness of Pharaoh and his people, and that they are, with that, subject to the will. "And We followed them in this." And when the intention was to elaborate on their kingship, he explained the name of the reference and said: "the world" and did not say: "the life," because the context is to belittle their matter and the lowliness of their status. "A curse" means: expulsion and distance from Our presence [and pushing them away by that] and invoking against them by that from everyone who hears their news with his tongue (p-300) if he opposes them, or by his action which would be upon them like his burden. Indeed, and the understanding: "And on the Day of Resurrection they are" meaning: specifically, and whoever resembles them. "Among the despicable" means: the distant ones, also the disgraceful ones along with the ugliness of faces and forms, and the disgrace in sayings, actions, and conditions, from the ugliness that is the opposite of beauty, and from their saying: I have made the thing ugly - if you break it - and may Allah disgrace the enemy: distance him from all good. So I wish I knew what clarity remains after this [in] that Pharaoh is the enemy of Allah, in the Hereafter as he was His enemy in this world. So may the curse of Allah be upon whoever says: He died a believer, and that there is no clear statement in the Qur'an that he is among the people of the Fire, and upon [everyone] who doubts his disbelief after what he has committed from his clear matter.
