Commentary
And when the Most High informed about their saying, He turned to inform about the words of Musa, blessings and peace be upon him, so that the listener may compare between the two speeches and discern with his intellect what is corrupt among them. "For by its opposite, things are made clear." This is according to the reading of the majority with the conjunction, and it is a response to one who seems to have asked about his answer according to the reading of Ibn Kathir by omitting it. For the place is a matter of inquiry about what he answered them when they called the clear signs magic, in great astonishment at that. So he said: "And Musa said," meaning: when they denied him, and they are the liars, indicating to the one with insight a way to distinguish between the two matters in a threatening context for them: "My Lord," meaning: the One who is good to me by what you see of my truthfulness in all that I claimed by showing what you cannot achieve with your strength of miracles, and preventing this tyrannical, arrogant oppressor from reaching me with harm. "I know well who comes with misguidance, injustice, and aggression, so he will be forsaken for being a magician and will be burned, fabricating lies against Allah, and he will have a bad end. And I know his condition, but he said: "Who comes with guidance," meaning: the one whom Allah has permitted, and it is true in itself. "From Him," depicting his condition and enticing to his followers. "And whoever will have," for being supported and aided. "The outcome of the abode," meaning: comfort, tranquility, and stability with safety, peace of mind, joy, and success in all demands in the state that will be the last of the states from me and you. So he knows that he has brought what pleases Allah, and although its reality is what follows a thing of good or evil, it is intended only for what is aimed at the rational being so that it may be for him. As for the outcome of evil, it is upon him, not for him. Then he explained that with what Allah has made His custom; he said, informing that the forsaken one is the liar, indicating that he is the dominant one for Allah is with him, affirming what has settled in the souls that piety does not overcome the weak. "Indeed, the wrongdoers will not succeed," meaning: they will not achieve victory or success. "Those who walk as one walks in darkness without a guide," for they do not place a foot in a place they trust to be suitable for walking in it, with no blame in it. "So you will see, and you will certainly know its news after a while."
