Commentary

And when it was as if it was said: What did he do after witnessing these miracles? It was said: He remained steadfast, knowing the difficulty of the situation and the seriousness of the matter. So he stipulated for himself until he was satisfied. And that was his habit: steadfastness and resolution, forbearance and knowledge. Do you not see what he did with us, blessings and peace be upon him, in the goodness of the night of Isra, in asking for the reduction of prayer? For all of that, he said: "O my Lord," meaning: O You who is gracious to me, "Indeed, I" he emphasized it because the sending of Allah, glorified and exalted is He, to him is the act of one who does not consider that they have a debt against him. So he mentioned that to know the reason for not considering it: "I killed from them" meaning: the family of Pharaoh, "a soul," and you know that I only left them fleeing from them because of it. "So I fear" if I confront them, "that they will kill me" for my sin against them and my isolation and my foreignness and the heaviness of my tongue in establishing the proofs.
