Commentary
And when this saying necessitated that he took him in, his two daughters knew its meaning. They had seen from his sufficiency and piety what encouraged them to be with him. The soul longed for their condition at that time. So he began by saying: "One of them said." That is, one of the two women. It was said that she was the one who called him to her father, indicating [by calling] with a tool of distance to belittle herself and the greatness of her father: "O my father, hire him, so he may suffice us in what concerns us." Then she justified her saying, confirming her desire for good and her joy in it: "Indeed, the best of those you hire is the strong." This is due to what we have seen of his strength in watering. "The trustworthy," because we discerned in him his modesty, chastity in his gaze, his words, his actions, and all his conditions. Abu Hayyan said: Her saying is the saying of a wise person, as when trustworthiness and sufficiency come together in the one responsible for a matter, the goal has been achieved.
