And when he mentioned the resurrection, he indicated it by their gathering every night to the place of rest, and sealing their feelings, and raising them from sleep, and the manifestation of the darkness which is like death after the light, and the sending of light after its annihilation by darkness. He said: "Did they not see" from what indicates to them our power to raise them after death and on all that we informed them of it. "That We made" meaning: by our greatness which no one can reach the likeness of anything from it, the evidence of our uniqueness and our action by choice. "The night" meaning: dark, "that they may dwell in it" from spreading. "And the day bright" meaning: by the sight of those who mix with it, so they may spread in it in their livelihoods after they had died the minor death. And how many of them spent the night soundly without any change in them and died. And if We had willed, We would have made them all like that; none of them would have risen. And he turned away from "that they may see in it" as a reminder of the completeness of its being a cause for sight, and that it is not the intended purpose like dwelling, but rather a means to the intended purpose which is the bringing of benefits. So the verse is from the interweaving: mentioning dwelling first is an indication of spreading second, and mentioning sight second is an indication of darkness first. Then he magnified this verse urging reflection on what is in it of the guiding power to the straight path, saying: "Indeed, in that" meaning: the resurrection and the two minor resurrections with the verses of night and day, "are signs" meaning: multiple, clear signs of monotheism, resurrection after death, and prophethood. Because whoever turned the two nights for the benefits of the people of this world, sent the messengers for their benefits in both abodes.

And when it was from the foundations of the surah to specify guidance for the believers, he specified them with the verses for their exclusivity in benefiting from them, even though all share in being an indication for them. He said: "For a people who believe" meaning: I have decreed that their faith continues to renew, so they are every day in elevation and increase.
