Commentary

And when He guided them with the signs of the horizons, and all of them were from the states of ease, and they were in a state of neglect of the God, He reminded them of what was within themselves that necessitates the change of the states that indicate the God, and it requires of every rational person the truth of turning to Him, and the sincerity of intention towards Him, and the inclination towards Him. Upon this, the natures have focused, and consensus has been established, so there was no dispute in it. He said: "Is there anyone who answers the distressed?" That is, the kind of refuge to that which he has no power over, the truth applies to the little and the much when he intends to answer him as you see. And he expressed it in the present tense because it is something that renews, unlike what has passed from the creation of the heavens and what follows it. "When he calls upon Him," that is, when He makes you forget the harm your partners, and compels you to the One who created you, and makes the neglectful forget his doctrine and oblivious to his bad manners, His great inclination towards fulfilling his needs.

And when the answering has two aspects, bringing joy and repelling evils, and the consideration of the latter is stronger, He specifically began with it and said: "And He removes the evil." Then he followed it with the first in a more general way, saying, indicating the great favor upon them by making them dominant over all who are on the earth, and what is in the earth is under His command, glorified and exalted is He. And for this reason, He turned towards them, "And He makes you successors on the earth," that is, in what one of you succeeds another, He continues to renew that by destroying a generation and creating another until the Day of Resurrection. And when this is clearer, He repeated the rebuke in it, confronting them with their forgetfulness, saying: "Is there a God with Allah?" That is, a being or existence "with the Greatest King who has no equal."

Then He began the rebuke anew, intensifying it and confronting them in the recitation of the congregation for what this reveals of the proximity necessitating the address. And for this reason, He emphasized with the addition of "little," saying: "Little do you remember," that is, that the One who saved you from that alone when you sincerely turned to Him at the time of hardship is the owner of all your affairs in ease as He was the owner of it in hardship. And that the idols do not own anything by intercession or otherwise as they did not own anything in your belief at times of crises and intensifying calamities in important matters. For this is an evident analogy and a clear proof. However, it is human nature to forget what he was in of harm when the good comes. And whoever reads with the two forms, they are Abu Amr, Hisham, and Rawh, it is for indicating the anger that is most fitting for disbelief, along with the great kindness.
