Commentary
And when he finished [with] the story of the near one [who] called his people, suddenly they were two groups, after the stranger whom none of those he called followed, he followed it with a stranger whom no one from those he called followed. He said, indicating that he has, glorified and exalted is He, the choice. Sometimes He conducts matters according to analogy, and other times contrary to the basis that the minds of people require. He said: ﴿And Lot﴾ meaning: And indeed We sent him; and he pointed to the speed of his conveying by saying: ﴿When﴾ meaning: at the time ﴿he said to his people﴾ meaning: those among whom he resided when he parted from his uncle [Ibrahim] the Friend, blessings and peace be upon him, and he married them. They would come to the events, denying and reproaching: ﴿Do you approach﴾. And when there was for the ambiguity then the specification from shaking the soul and terrifying it what is not for the specification from the beginning of the matter [he said]: ﴿the abomination﴾ meaning: the act that is extreme in ugliness ﴿and you see﴾ meaning: you have minds by which you recognize the good and the bad. And perhaps some of them would do it in the presence of some, as he said: ﴿And you approach in your gatherings the abomination﴾ [Al-Ankabut: 29] so at that time it would be from the sight and insight;
