Commentary
And when this is from them, the action of one who does not think that Allah is aware of it, Allah, the Most High, said, warning such as them against such: ﴿And they plotted a plot﴾ meaning: [they concealed] a great concealment by which they intended evil [with this negotiation over the division, so their plotting, which they strived to conceal, is exposed to us and known in our presence, and we felt it, rather we knew it, so we invalidated it] ﴿And We plotted a plot﴾ [meaning: and We recompensed them for their actions with what we have of greatness, which is the true plotting, for no one from creation knows it. Therefore, He said: ﴿And they﴾ meaning: while they are concerned with investigating matters and being cautious of the great decrees ﴿do not perceive﴾ meaning: they do not have any perception of what We have decreed upon them in any way, so how about others than them, and that is because We made their destruction in their planning, so they could not invalidate it, and We included them in the news of what was, no person escaped from them, and We destroyed all the disbelievers from their people in their places (p-179) their dwellings or other than their dwellings. As for their plotting, they were striving in perfecting it and securing its affair, they had allowed the safety of some of those they intended for destruction, so there is a great difference between the two plots, and how far apart they are from each other, and it has become clear that the verse is either an interweaving or similar to it: the lack of perception indicates the omission of the lack of invalidation from the second, and the omission of perception and the invalidation which is its result from the first.
