Commentary
And when the messengers went, and he ﷺ knew from what he saw of their diminishment due to the awe and majesty that his Lord had bestowed upon him and his greatness, that they would come with it submissively. He said to his people, confirming his saying: "And We have been given from everything" [An-Naml: 16], to inform them that it had secured its throne: "O assembly!" meaning: the nobles, "Which of you will bring me its throne?" so that they may see some of what Allah has given me of miracles, and it would be more helpful in following it in religion, and so that I may take it before its acceptance becomes prohibited by its Islam, and I may test its intellect before they come to me, meaning: she and her people, "Muslims" meaning: submissive to my authority, abandoning the honor of their authority, severing from their great status, so that this would be more possible in establishing the proof against her regarding my prophethood and more helpful in the firmness of faith in her heart and her sincerity in it.
