Then he began with what he would test him with. He wrote for him a letter immediately, in the utmost brevity, intending to hasten the removal of the wrong based on the truthfulness of the hoopoe according to its ability. He indicated his haste in writing by his saying in response to him: "Take this letter of mine." This was the saying of one who was ready with it and handed it to him.

And when peace be upon him had increased his anxiety due to their prostration to other than Allah, he commanded him to hasten greatly. It was as if he was the fastest of birds in flight, and Allah aided him with an increase in that by His assistance, honoring His Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him. He became as if he were lightning. He indicated this by the conjunction in his saying: "So cast it." And when he did not specify it in the letter without them in words to belittle themselves in his address, along with what indicates to them his greatness, he gathered and said: "To them," meaning: those whom you mentioned that they worship the sun. This was for the concern regarding the matter of religion.

And when, if he had delayed from them after casting it to a place where he would be safe for himself, there would have entered them doubt that he was the one who cast it, he commanded him to remain after casting it, fluttering over their heads until they confirmed his matter. Glorified and exalted is He indicated this with the tool of delay in his saying: "Then," meaning: after your arrival and your casting. "Turn away" means: move away "from them" to a place where you can hear their words and they cannot reach you with it. "Then look" after your turning away, "what they will return" meaning: from the speech from some of them to some others because of the letter.
