Commentary

Then he said, in continuation, establishing the governance of the kingdom, what also indicates his greatness. They said: Indeed, he sees the water in the earth as a person sees water from inside glass. So he strikes the ground, and the devils come and bring it out: ﴿I will surely punish him﴾ meaning: because of his absence in what I did not permit in it ﴿a severe punishment﴾ meaning: while keeping his soul for his discipline and as a deterrent for others like him ﴿or I will surely slaughter him﴾ meaning: as a discipline for others ﴿or he will surely come to me﴾ meaning: one of these three things will surely happen, or the second 'or' could mean except that (p-150) so the meaning would be: one of the two matters will surely happen: punishment or slaughter, except that he comes to me ﴿with a clear authority﴾ meaning: a clear proof in his excuse.
