And when each of them, peace be upon them, had been given what was mentioned, he pointed to the virtue of Solomon, peace be upon him, by indicating that he combined what he was given with what was bestowed upon his father. He said: ﴿And Solomon inherited David﴾ meaning: his father, peace be upon them, without his brothers in prophethood, knowledge, and the kingship which Allah had specifically granted him, combining it with prophethood. So he thanked Allah for what He had bestowed upon him, both first and second. ﴿And he said﴾ meaning: Solomon, peace be upon him, speaking of the blessing of his Lord and alerting to what Allah had honored him with, so that he would be more deserving in the acceptance of the people of what he calls them to of good: ﴿O people﴾. And when it was known that there is no teacher for him except Allah, for no one else can do that, he said, establishing the action: ﴿We were taught﴾ meaning: I and my father [with the easiest matter and the simplest of it, from one who cannot achieve what we have learned, whether the intention is solely for him, it would not be from arrogance in anything, rather it is the words of the one who is obeyed, alerting to the greatness of Allah by what He has honored him with, from what pertains to the ability over it or the command of it, as the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, would do when there was a situation that required it, as he said regarding zakat: 'We take it and a portion of his wealth as a determination from our Lord, glorified and exalted is He,' and as he would write to some of the tyrants]. ﴿The language of the birds﴾ meaning: the understanding of what each bird wants when it chirps, and the language is what is spoken with, whether it is singular or composed, beneficial or not beneficial. And there is no wonder that the One who has given every soul its guidance and taught it to distinguish its benefits and harms grants it a strength by which it can communicate among itself, so that each type of it understands one another in what it wants, and this would be limited from the understanding of man regarding its specifics in the particulars arising from the senses. ﴿And we were given﴾ from the One who has greatness, with the easiest matter of His matter ﴿from everything﴾ meaning: He completes it with that from the means of kingship, prophethood, and others. And He expressed it with the tool of comprehensiveness, magnifying the blessing, as it is said to one who is frequently visited by people: 'So-and-so is sought by everyone.' And when this was a remarkable matter, he indicated it with his saying, affirming it with various types of confirmation, and thanking himself for more gratitude, urging himself towards it: ﴿Indeed, this﴾ meaning: that which we have been given ﴿is indeed the manifest favor﴾ meaning: clear in itself to everyone who observes it, clarifying the high status of its possessor and the unique, overflowing, and granting oneness.
