﴿And they denied﴾ that is: they disbelieved while knowing ﴿it﴾ that is: they denied its being signs necessitating the truth of him, while they knew of its invalidation, for indeed, denial is the rejection of something while knowing it.

And since denial means the rejection of something while knowing it, this is confirmed by his saying: ﴿And they were certain of it﴾ that is: while they sought to grasp the realities of its matter (p-138) until they were certain of it being true ﴿themselves﴾ and its knowledge permeated their very bones, their tongues were contrary to what was in their hearts. Therefore, he attributed certainty to the self. Then he explained their denial and their description of it contrary to its description by saying: ﴿Injustice and arrogance﴾ that is: the desire to place something in its wrong place, and the arrogance towards the one who brings it, deceiving the servants of Allah.

And since the estimation is: so We drowned them all with the easiest effort and the lightest matter, and there remained not among them any survivor, and none returned among them to report, despite their multitude, greatness, and strength, he turned to remind them of it by saying: ﴿So look﴾ and he alerted that their news is among that which the motivations are abundant to inquire about due to its greatness. He said expressing with the tool of questioning: ﴿How was﴾ and the original was: their consequence, that is: the end of their matter, but he made it clear and said: ﴿The consequence of the corruptors﴾ to indicate [to] the description that was a cause for their taking as a threat to everyone who commits like it.
