Commentary
And when He showed him, glorified is He, this miracle in what was in his hand, by the essence of it to the essence of another living thing, He showed him another sign in his own hand by the essence of its appearance which was upon it to an appearance of another luminous thing. So He said: "And put your hand into your garment," meaning: the opening of your garment, which was cut from it to sew around your neck. "It will come out," meaning: when it brings it out, "white," meaning: a great bright whiteness, very luminous, having a radiance like the radiance of the sun.
And when it was that perhaps he fell into the illusion that this affliction, He said: "Without any harm," meaning: leprosy or other afflictions. Another sign being "in" the total of "nine signs," as has been explained in the Surah of Al-Isra and others, culminating in your hand with My message to you "to Pharaoh and his people," meaning: those who are the most severe among the people of this time in tyranny and aggression. Then He explained His sending to them with the miracles by saying: "Indeed, they were," meaning: a state as if it were a nature for them, "a people of disobedience," meaning: those who are outside of Our obedience to bring them back to Us.
