Commentary
And when he praised Allah, the Most High, with that which He is worthy of, and concluded with the mention of this great day, he prayed for that which would remove the terror of it. His action indicated that the precedence of praise over the request is an important matter, and it has a great effect in the response. He said, turning towards the station of witnessing, indicating that the matter is tremendous, and that nothing can save from its danger except the One of great power. This is due to what the soul is inclined to of deficiencies: "My Lord," meaning: O Benefactor to me, "grant me a judgment," meaning: an action perfected by knowledge. Its essence is the building of a thing upon what wisdom necessitates. And since reliance is solely on pure generosity, indeed, whoever is held to account will be punished. He said: "And join me with the righteous," meaning: those whom You have made leaders for the pious in this world and the Hereafter. They are those whose words and actions are pure from any mixture of corruption.
