And when the excuse of Musa, blessings and peace be upon him, stood in what he sought to repel at the beginning of the story from the plotting of Pharaoh, with what was established for him of greatness and power in the multitude of soldiers and the great obedience from them to him in the swiftness of the gathering, which indicated their capability within themselves and their greatness in their hearts, out of desire and fear, and the glory of Allah appeared in the realization of what He promised, glorified and exalted is He, from protection. And it increased what the eyes affirmed and what opened the chests. And this was a matter that shook the powers upon hearing it and terrified the ears upon imagining and mentioning it. He said, alerting to that: "Indeed, in that" meaning: the great matter of the high rank from the story of Musa and Pharaoh and what is in it of lessons "is a sign" meaning: a great sign of what the Messenger said, necessitating belief in it that the Creator is One, acting by choice, capable of all things, and that He is truly His Messenger. "And most of them" meaning: those who witnessed it and those who were admonished by hearing it "were not believers" meaning: characterized by firm faith. As for the Egyptians, none among them believed except for the magicians, and the believer from the family of Pharaoh, and the wife of Pharaoh, and the woman who guided them to the bones of Yusuf, blessings and peace be upon him - as it is said. And as for the Children of Israel, many of them were shaken, stubborn with every little thing, and they would say and do what is disbelief, until Allah, the Exalted, intervened for them through the hands of Musa, blessings and peace be upon him, and those after him. And the first of that was their request after crossing the sea to make for them a god like the idols they passed by. And as for others who lagged behind them, their condition is well-known, and their matter is observed and revealed.
