Commentary
'So We inspired' means that the words indicating vigilance led to Our inspiration. He mentioned His noble name as a reward for his trust in Him, glorified and exalted is He. He said: 'To Musa.' He explained the revelation which contains the meaning of the words by saying: 'Strike with your staff the sea.' That is, the sea that is before you, which is the sea of Qalzam, from which the people of Egypt reach the Mount and the honored Makkah and what is near it. 'Then it parted' means that he struck it and it split due to his striking, in obedience to the command of Allah. It became twelve parts, corresponding to the number of their tribes. 'And each part' means a large portion of it 'was like a great mountain,' meaning a mountain in its height, length, and firmness, without flowing. 'The great one' is the one that towers in the sky, stable and does not shake, because the water was spread out on the surface of the sea. When it parted and the paths were revealed in it, some of it joined with some, thus it rose and elevated in the sky.
