Commentary

And when he described the expulsion, he described its effect and said, arranging it in action and on the inheritance with strength: ﴿So they followed them﴾ meaning: they made themselves followers of them ﴿at sunrise﴾ meaning: entering at the time of the rising of the sun, that is: its rising from the morning of the night in which the Children of Israel traveled in the middle of it. And if it were not for the decree of the Almighty, the All-Knowing, regarding the breaking of that for the sake of custom, it would not have been according to the rule of custom in less than ten days. For it is a matter that kings are incapable of, like it. So how swift was that gathering! And how vast was that provision! And they continued until they caught up with them at the Sea of Qalzam, as previously explained in Al-A'raf regarding that from the Torah. And the secret of their guidance on that path has been previously mentioned.
