And when He, glorified and exalted is He, narrated the state of the supplication that sufficed in the consolation of those who intended harm and mockery towards these two prophets and those whom they called to, and made them the two highest ones, their weakness and fewness did not harm them, nor did the strength and multitude of their enemy benefit him. He began to console by what He established in the state of the journey. So He said, summarizing what remained of it because this was mentioned with it, adding to this story: "And We revealed" meaning: with what We have of greatness when We intended to conclude the matter and fulfill the promise "to Musa to travel" meaning: travel at night, while Pharaoh and his soldiers were occupied with the death of their firstborn and their preparation for them "with My servants" meaning: the Children of Israel [whom We honored], accompanying them towards the side of the sea of reeds, not caring about Pharaoh nor being disturbed by him. They provisioned themselves with meat and unleavened bread for haste, and they smeared their doorposts with blood, for I commanded the angels who kill the firstborn not to enter a house with blood at its door; then He explained His command to him to travel at night by saying: "Indeed, you will be followed" meaning: do not think that because of the multitude of what they have seen of the signs, they will refrain from following you. So he hurried to leave so that you may distance yourselves from them to the place which I had decreed in eternity that My glory would appear therein, and the intention was to meet them at the sea. And he did not conceal your following from Musa, blessings and peace be upon him, for he was not affected by it when he realized the preservation of what had been promised with that confirmation.
