He explicitly mentioned the name of Musa, blessings and peace be upon him, to negate any ambiguity, so he said: ﴿So he threw﴾ meaning: it resulted from the action of the magicians and their pursuit that Musa threw. He faced the collective of what they had thrown with the singular of what he threw, because it is more indicative of the miracle. So he said: ﴿His staff﴾ meaning: that which We made a sign for him. And it resulted from his throwing his saying: ﴿So it swallowed﴾ meaning: it immediately consumed with speed and eagerness ﴿what they were fabricating﴾ meaning: they diverted it from its face and its reality, which is the inanimate, by their tricks and their illusions to the assumption that it was living snakes moving.
