Commentary
Then it was said in response to one who seemed to ask about his answer: "He said," responding to what they asked: "Yes," meaning: for you is that. And He gave them wealth better than it in the sight of the people of this world, affirming it by saying: "And indeed, you then," meaning: if you prevail, "are certainly among those brought near," meaning: to Me. And the addition of "then" here is an emphasis due to what it includes of distancing from faith by the clarity of the proof, easing for the one addressed by all of this, blessings and peace be upon him, as a consolation for him in bearing upon himself that he would not be among those who call them believers. And what follows from the hastening of the magicians to faith - after he mentioned their swearing by His might with utmost emphasis - is a realization of the verse: "So their necks remained humbled before it" [Ash-Shu'ara: 4].
