Commentary
Perhaps we will follow the magicians. For whoever obeys the command of the king is in a state similar to one whose following of his party is hoped for, if they are the victorious ones. This means a victory that there is no doubt is arising from capability. And we will turn away from the matter of Musa, in which the king disputed regarding him. This is indeed their true intention, and he expressed this as a metaphor for it because it is more indicative of the greatness of the king. He expressed it with a tool of doubt to show fairness and to attract the people, while considering their certainty of the victory of the magicians, due to what has been firmly established in their minds over the long ages of the misguidance that there is no forgetfulness of Iblis regarding its adornment, even though changing the familiar is a matter of utmost difficulty.
