Commentary
And when he stopped them with what he had made them perceive, he blinded them to themselves. He said, casting off the garments of pride due to what he was overpowered by from the authority of the miracle: "He intends to drive you out of your land," meaning: this land which is your foundation, "by his magic," meaning: because of what he has brought forth from it. For indeed, it necessitates the subjugation of the people, so he can achieve what he wants [with them]. Then he said to his people - those who he claimed were his servants and that he was their god - what indicated that his powers had failed. So he cast off the greatness of divinity from his shoulders, and his limbs trembled until he made himself commanded after he had claimed to be a commander, rather a capable god: "So what do you command?" meaning: in opposing him regarding what he intends for us.
