Commentary
So when he knew that he had cut him off by what he clarified of the matter, and he reached with him in harshness to a point that if he were to remain silent about it, it would weaken his condition and diminish the resolve of his men, he spoke with what silence was more appropriate than it. So Allah, the Most High, informed by His saying: ﴿He said﴾, justly about the arguments after the discussion in it to the contest, which is the clearest sign of interruption: ﴿If you take a god other than me﴾, meaning: you deliberately took him and singled him out with directing all your intention towards him. ﴿I will surely make you among the imprisoned﴾, meaning: one of those who are in my prisons, as you know of my condition in my ability, and of my prisons in their severity, and of the condition of those in them from the intensity of confinement and harshness in imprisonment.
