So when he behaved disrespectfully, the listener's eagerness to know his response intensified. Therefore, the Most High began to inform about that, stating that he mentioned to him what he cannot claim obedience to him. He is more changeable and more astonishing in his movements by saying, "The Lord of the East and the West," meaning: the rising and setting and their times and locations, "and what is between them," meaning: from the people who are not in your obedience, and the animals and inanimate objects, due to what you see of His ability to change the lights from the rising of the sun, the moon, and the stars, and their setting, and what appears from them in the night and the day, upon various changes and similar movements. If it were not for this, you would not know anything of your affairs, nor would you be able to manage your conditions. This evidence is the clearest of all to repeat the movement in it and other signs of it. For this reason, Nimrod was astonished when the Friend, blessings and peace be upon him, presented it to him.

And when he called him with gentleness, he behaved disrespectfully towards him in the previous response. He concluded this proof by saying, "If you understand," meaning: then you know that. He gave them the choice between acknowledging madness or sanity, based on what he indicated with the evidence in response to what they attributed to him of madness by their silence and their great words without any doubt, to turn them away from misguidance and to save them from clear ignorance. His words were more piercing, even though they were gentler, and clearer, even though they were more concealed and more noble.
