Commentary
They listen to the devils and they pay attention to them to the utmost extent. This is due to the mutual affection between them, through the complete transmission of lies without concern or avoidance. Or the devils throw what they hear from what they steal of listening from the angels to their allies. They inform them of what they have heard from them, and they mix it with what their souls have adorned for them. And most of them, meaning the two groups, are liars in what they convey about what they hear of the news regarding what has reached them of the mixing, and what they have added of fabrication and confusion due to their obsession with the desire for knowledge of the unseen, which leads to falsehood and misguidance. Al-Razi said in Al-Lawa'ih, the meaning of which is that wherever there is uprightness in the state of imagination, meaning the imagined power, there is the abode of the angels. And wherever there is deviation in the state of imagination, there is the abode of the devils. So whoever corresponds with the spiritual beings from the angels, their descent is upon him, and their presence is with him, and their influence upon him, and their manifestation with him. Until when they appear to him, he speaks with their words and they speak with his tongue, and he sees with their sight and they see with his eyes. They are angels walking on the earth, feeling secure. Indeed, those who say, 'Our Lord is Allah,' then remain steadfast, the angels descend upon them. And whoever corresponds with the devils from the rebellious ones, their descent is upon him, and their presence is with him, and their influence upon him, and their manifestation with him. Until when they appear to him, he speaks with their words and they speak with his tongue, and he sees with their sight and they see with his eyes. They are the devils of mankind walking on the earth, causing corruption.
