And when that was a place of wonder, and it was possible for him to think that the matter was not as it truly is, he confirmed its content and established it by saying: ﴿Thus﴾ meaning: like this amazing conduct - which is hearing and apparent understanding - in the difficulty of its entrance and the narrowness of its passage.

And when the context did not necessitate what the context of Al-Hijr required in terms of emphasis, he sufficed with the mere occurrence and said: ﴿We made it a path﴾ meaning: our words and the truth with which we sent our messengers [with our greatness in their hearts - this was the original, but he conditioned the ruling by the description, and it applies to every time and everyone who possesses it, so he said]: ﴿In the hearts of the criminals﴾ meaning: those whom we have made accustomed to crime, which is the severance of what should be connected, just as the arrow is organized when it is shot, or the spear when it is thrust into the heart, it does not have room for it, nor does it expand with it, rather you see it narrow and constricted.
