And when he reminded him of a favor that would lead him to feel shy before Him, he reminded him of a sin that he is deserving to fear the consequence of it. So he said, intimidating him with a hint about it: "And you did your deed," meaning: of killing the Egyptian. Then he affirmed his attribution to that, indicating that he dealt with him with forbearance to shame him. He said: "The one you did, while you are," meaning: and while you are "of the disbelievers," meaning: for My favor and the right of My upbringing by killing one who is attributed to Me, or counting him among them for his silence about them at that time. For he had not been commanded regarding them with anything before the mission, so he was being courteous to them. It is as if he said: And you are one of us, so why do you now deny us and attribute us to disbelief?
