Commentary
And when he admonished them, he excelled in his admonition by concluding it with a prohibition against corruption. He frightened them from the might of Allah, the Most High, which He inflicted upon those who were greater than them. He said: "And fear the One who created you." That is, your annihilation is the easiest thing for Him. He pointed to their weakness and the strength of those who were before them by saying: "And the generations of the former ones," meaning: the group and the nation of the earlier ones who were of a great creation and nature, as if they were mountains in strength and solidity, especially the people of Hud, blessings and peace be upon him, who are Arabs like you. They had reached great strength in their bodies and solidity in all their limbs, until they said: "Who is stronger than us in might?" [Fussilat: 15] And you have been informed of what He, glorified and exalted is He, sent down upon them of His punishment, for the Arabs are the most knowledgeable of people regarding their news.
