And when it was known that they both complied with what Allah commanded them, they came to him and told him what they were commanded with. The soul longed for his response to them. So He, the Most High, said, turning to a similar saying as in the previous verse: ﴿And they said, What is this messenger that eats food?﴾ [Al-Furqan: 7] and ﴿They take you not except in mockery.﴾ [Al-Furqan: 41] And similar to that is a consolation for this noble Prophet and a confirmation of the meaning of His saying, ﴿Certainly not.﴾ [Ash-Shu'ara: 15] and ﴿Listening.﴾ [Ash-Shu'ara: 15] From the fact that Pharaoh, even if he exaggerated in his boasting and threats, nothing from that terrifies Musa, peace be upon him. ﴿He said,﴾ meaning: Pharaoh, when he conveyed the message, addressing Musa, peace be upon him, knowing that he is the original in it, and his brother is merely a minister, denying him confronting him with such a thing and warning him to refrain from his boldness by affirming such words to him: ﴿Did We not raise you among us as a child?﴾ meaning: in our greatness which you witnessed, ﴿And you were with us for many years.﴾ meaning: not with others, considering your severing to us and your apparent support with us (p-21) ﴿Of your life many years.﴾ meaning: a lot, so we have upon you a right that should prevent you from confronting us with such a thing. And it is as if he expressed what conveys the annoyance, a metaphor for the duration of his stay with him, that it was an annoyance for him because he fell into what he feared, and he missed what he was cautious about regarding the slaughter of the children.
