And when it was in the course of the deniers and the believers, on a single system of destruction and salvation, it was the greatest lesson and the most significant admonition. He indicated this by His saying: ﴿Indeed, in that is a sign﴾, meaning: a great indication of the truthfulness of the messengers in all their encouragements and warnings, and their glad tidings and cautions.

And when those who came after these nations, like Quraysh and those before them, had learned of their news, and they combined some of the news with observing the lands and reflecting on the traces, he said, marveling at their state in their misguidance: ﴿And what﴾, meaning: while the case is that ﴿most of them were not believers﴾.
