And he indicated that this regret is not in the sense of repentance or that it is when witnessing the punishment, which did not benefit them. Or that this is a metaphor indicating that their state has become that of the regretful, not that there was regret from them over something. For it has been reported from them that the punishment came to them while they were trying to kill Salih, peace be upon him, by his saying: "So the punishment seized them," meaning: the promised punishment.
And when there was in the she-camel and in the arrival of the signs, as previously mentioned, the greatest evidence of the truthfulness of the Messenger who calls to Allah, he said: "Indeed, in that is a sign," meaning: a great indication of the correctness of what they were commanded regarding Allah.
"And while" meaning: and the case is that with that, "most of them were not believers."
