Commentary
And when the soul longed to know His response regarding these important matters, it was relieved of its burden by His saying, informing that He, glorified and exalted is He, answered him in all that he asked: ﴿He said﴾ the saying of one who possesses complete power and encompasses all knowledge, as is His description, glorified and exalted is He: ﴿No﴾ meaning: refrain from this speech, for there will be nothing of what you fear, neither killing nor anything else - and as if the denial, along with the proofs that support the truth, which strengthen its possessor, clarify his chest, and elevate his matter, was counted as nonexistence - and we have answered you to assist your brother ﴿So go﴾ meaning: you and he are cooperating, to what I commanded you, supported ﴿by Our signs﴾ indicating your truthfulness due to the greatness of their addition to Us; then He explained His assurance to him by saying: ﴿Indeed, We﴾ with what We possess of greatness ﴿are with you﴾ meaning: present when you reach them among those who follow you from your people; then He informed of another matter by saying: ﴿Listening﴾ meaning: hearing with what We possess of greatness in power and other attributes of perfection, to what you both say to them and they say to you, so we do not disappear from you nor do you disappear from Us, for we act with you in assistance and victory as the capable and present one acts with what he does for his beloved who listens to him with his utmost effort, and for this reason He expressed it with listening; Abu Hayyan said: Our master, the teacher Abu Ja'far ibn al-Zubair preferred that it be intended in the form of the plural [dual] and the address is only for Musa and Harun, for the word 'with' indicates who is a disbeliever, for it is not said: Allah is with him, and on the basis that it is intended in the plural, the duality is supported by Sibawayh's statement: 'As if they are for their honor before Allah, the Exalted, He treated them in address as the plural since it is permissible for the singular to be treated as such for his honor and greatness - this is concluded. And it is a precious statement supported by the precedence of the context, and at that time their address would be similar to the glorification of the speaker, glorified is He, Himself, because the status is for greatness, and the greatness of the Messenger is from the greatness of the One who sent him, with the possibility that this is a reference to the good news of those who follow them as I have estimated it, and it is also possible that the companionship is for all, as in His saying, the Exalted: ﴿There is no whispering among three except He is their fourth﴾ [Al-Mujadila: 7] the verse.
