And when it was known that whoever comes to the people with what contradicts their desires will not be accepted, he informed [those who longed to know his response] that he responded with what necessitates the supplication for help, when he recognized the gravity of this position, by saying, turning towards: O Lord, indeed my people have taken this Qur'an as abandoned.
﴿He said, My Lord﴾ means: O companion of mine (p-16) ﴿Indeed, I fear that they will deny me﴾ means: so that no effect will result from my coming to them, and they seek for me harm. So grant me acceptance and a reverence that will protect me from those who wish me ill. It is permissible that by 'I fear' he means 'I know' or 'I think', and thus 'that' would be lightened, and the two verbs would be conjoined to 'they will deny' in the reading of the majority with the raising, with the allowance of conjunction to 'I fear', [and the estimation would be].
