Commentary
And when he despaired of them because of what he heard from their exaggeration in their assertion, and he saw what confirmed it from their actions, Allah, the Most High, said, informing about him [in response to the question of one who wants to know his state after that]: "He said," complaining to Allah, the Most High, of what He knows better than him, as a prelude to supplicating against them and inciting him and stirring him up, turning away from their threats to him with patience and seeking reward, because it is [one of] the necessities of enjoining good and forbidding evil, and sufficing from it because of it: "My Lord," meaning: O You who are gracious to me.
And when the situation necessitated that they should believe him because of what he had in himself [of trustworthiness, and with them from kinship, and when he established what he called them to with evidence along with what he had in himself] of clarity, he confirmed the news of their denial, informing of its existence, and that he had certainly realized it from them without doubt, so he said: "Indeed, my people are deniers," meaning: they have no intention of following me.
