Commentary
And when the description of honor necessitated destruction, and the description of mercy necessitated delay, the former was prioritized. Their custom was to prioritize what was of greater importance to them, which was more significant for them, fearing its unforeseen consequences. This was followed by the news of these nations, indicating both descriptions together, encouraging and frightening. It indicated that mercy preceded anger, even if the description fitting for Him was presented first. He does not punish except after clarification, with a long delay. He excluded the story of their father Ibrahim, blessings and peace be upon him, from mentioning destruction as a reference to the good news of kindness towards his Arab children in the delay, just as He was kind to them in sending and sending messengers. And since there was in this story a consolation for the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, regarding what he was experiencing of harm and denial, and the consolation was more complete with Musa and Ibrahim, blessings be upon them, due to their closeness and participation in migration and the intention towards the holy land. Musa, blessings be upon him, had been specifically honored with a book that has no equal after the Qur'an, and the verses that no one before him brought forth. His eye acknowledged the guidance of his people and their preservation after him with the book, and the governance of the prophets who renewed his law, and the fact that they were not eradicated by punishment and vengeance by their hands from all their enemies. He opened the lands of the disbelievers by their hands after him, blessings and peace be upon him, to other matters that they shared with this nation while being close to the Arabs, even in the land of migration and the place of support. This would be in their acknowledgment of what they hear of their news, the greatest miracle and the most complete evidence, which he presented first for Musa - blessings and peace be upon them. If the intention was to soothe what the last of that left him of fear of the constant punishment, considering the description of honor, the estimation is: mention the effect of Our mercy by the length of Our delay for your people - who are in the utmost of disbelief and misguidance in the days of ignorance - by Our comprehensive mercy with your sending to them while you are the noblest of the messengers, and the sending down of this book which is the greatest of books. 'And' mention 'when' and in the estimation of consolation, the conjunction would be to that because what is intended by it is the alerting. The estimation is: take the verses of the book and mention when your Lord called. That is, the One who is good to you with all that can be done in this abode. And in the estimation of frightening, the estimation is: did they not see when your Lord called, and they counted as witnesses to that because the Jews are in their land and in close proximity to them. They either must have been knowledgeable of the story from what they heard from them, or prepared for that due to their ability to ask them. Then he mentioned the one who called and said: 'Musa.' He followed it with what was for him the call, saying, explaining that the call in the meaning of the saying: 'Go to the people,' that is, those in whom there is strength, and what strength is that? 'The wrongdoers,' that is, by their placing their strength in the correct view leading to faith in a place other than its own.
