8Or a treasure should have been thrown down to him, or he should have a garden to eat from it?” And the transgressors said (to the believers,) “You are following none but a bewitched man.”

﴿Or it is thrown﴾ meaning from any thrower it may be.

And when throwing indicates elevation, they shifted from the tool of elevation that was previously expressed in Hud, peace be upon him, from descent to the preposition of the end, so they said: ﴿To Him﴾ meaning if he does not have that condition ﴿A treasure﴾ meaning this matter exists for him and his throwing is renewed without concern or care for it, by raising it from our general similarity in every aspect. Also, the expression in this and that which follows it in the present tense is more indicative of their eagerness for the world and that it is their greatest concern. Then they also descended in their saying: ﴿Or he has﴾ meaning if he does not have anything from what has passed ﴿A garden﴾ meaning a grove or a garden as it is for some of our elders ﴿He eats from it﴾ so it relieves him from what he engages in at times from seeking livelihood, and his wealth becomes more precious to him and more attractive for thoughts to him, and it encourages followers to be devoted to him, and it is more effective in what he wants - this is according to the reading of the majority with the bottom 'ya', and according to the reading of Hamzah and al-Kisai with the 'noon', the meaning would be: if we are able to have it, that would be more attractive for us to follow him. And when they were placing the words in inappropriate places, far from the truth, he said, marveling at their matter: ﴿And the wrongdoers said﴾ so he revealed the description that necessitated that for them: ﴿If﴾ meaning what ﴿You follow﴾ if you followed ﴿Except a man bewitched﴾ meaning he speaks with what does not benefit him, for his state is like that of one who has been overcome in his mind by magic, or a magician for whom magic has become second nature, so he separates by what he has brought between a man and his wife and his children and so forth. And they expressed it in the passive form indicating this, and that is because of the abundance of what occurs from him of that - it has become as if it arises from him without his choice.
