Commentary

And when He, glorified and exalted is He, described His believing servants with the opposite of the attributes of the disbelievers, such as gentleness, tranquility, humility, forbearance, calmness, gratitude to their Lord, longing towards Him, and fear of Him. Al-Razi said: So He described their walking, their speech, their standing for Him, their supplication, their expenditures, their purity, their alertness, their awakening, their truthfulness, their love, and their sincerity. The listener yearned for what they have with Him after the knowledge of what the disbelievers have. Thus, He began the news about that by magnifying their status, saying: "Those are" meaning the high in rank, the great in position. And since the intended purpose is indeed the reward, He based the saying for the action: "They will be rewarded" meaning a favor from Allah for what He has guided them to of these pure deeds and clear states. "The chamber" meaning that which is for its elevation, spaciousness, and goodness; there is no chamber other than it, for it is the ultimate of desire and the goal of aspiration; they do not seek to turn away from it, nor do they desire a substitute for it. It is every high, elevated structure, and it appears that what is meant by it is the type.

And since the striving is in the utmost of hardship due to its contradiction to the desires of the soul and its whims and the nature of the body, He encouraged it by making it a cause for this reward, saying: "Because of what they were patient" meaning they established patience upon the command of their Lord and the bitterness of their estrangement among the ignorant in their actions, words, and states, and other than that from the meanings of their majesty.

And since the abode does not become pleasant except with honor and safety, He said: "And they will be greeted" meaning Allah will make them greeted with the easiest matter; and according to the reading of Hamzah, Al-Kisai, and Abu Bakr from Asim with the lightening and the construction for the doer, and the matter is clear. "In it a greeting" meaning a supplication for life from some of them to others, and from the angels whose supplication is not rejected, and there is no doubt in their reporting, for they speak on behalf of Allah, and that is in the manner of honoring and magnifying, instead of what the servants of Satan have dishonored them with. "And peace" meaning from Allah and from the angels and others, and safety from every affliction, instead of what they were afflicted with by calamities.
