Commentary

And when he mentioned this fruitful quality following the first summary, he concluded with what produces the first attribute. He said, indicating that the leadership of religion should be sought and desired: "And those who say" knowing from themselves after their being characterized by all that has passed that they are worthy of leadership: "Our Lord, grant us from our spouses" those whom You have joined to us as You did for Your Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, for You praised his wife in Your earlier words, and made her praise recited throughout the ages and years: "and our offspring a comfort". And when the righteous - those who perform obedience and keep it secret - are few in comparison to the disobedient, he came with the gathering of the few and used the indefinite form saying: "Eyes" meaning from the deeds or from the workers who follow us, for the closest ones are more deserving of kindness. And there is nothing more comforting for the believer nor more pleasing to his eyes than to see his beloved obeying Allah. So they sought nothing but that Allah be obeyed so that their eyes may be comforted. And "from" could either be like in: I saw from you a lion, or it could be on its own, and the comfort refers to the deeds, meaning grant us from them good deeds, so they made the deeds of those who are dear to them a gift for them. And the origin of comfort is coolness, for the Arabs are harmed by heat and seek relief in coolness, so He made that a metaphor for joy: "And make us" meaning us and them "for the righteous" meaning generally from relatives and non-relatives.

And when what is required from the Muslims is to gather in obedience so that the word in following is one, they indicated this by the unity of the Imam, even if the intended meaning is the type, they said: "An Imam" meaning so we may be humble scholars, as is the case with the leadership of piety in promoting humility and tranquility, so that we may attain the great reward, for a person has his reward and the reward of whoever is guided by him and acts by his actions: "Whoever initiates a good tradition will have its reward and the reward of whoever acts by it until the Day of Resurrection" and the opposite of it.
