7They said, “What sort of messenger is this who eats food and walks in the markets? Why is it that an angel has not been sent down to him who would have been a warner along with him.

And when glorified and exalted is He completed what He intended from mentioning the abode and the abode, and informed about their slandering of the abode which is the intended goal of the message, He, the Exalted, established that proof against their lies. He followed it with the news of their slandering of the Messenger who brought it. He said, marveling at their minds which they consider to be the purest of minds and the highest in thought, in what they presented from that which they thought was evidence against the message. And none of it is suitable to be a doubt for one who has a grasp of his matter, let alone to be evidence: "And they said," meaning questioning mockingly by describing him, criticizing him with his action, the saying of one who is confident that the description of the message contradicts it: "What is this?" The indication in this direction implies disdain and belittlement; then they expressed mockery by saying: "The Messenger," meaning the one who claims that he is unique among the rest of humanity in this time with this lofty description, "eats food," meaning like what we eat, "and walks in the markets," meaning those which are the demands of this world, just as we walk.
