And when He established for him with these evidences the ability over all things, he said, marveling at them in the context of 'your Lord,' returning to the absurdity of their conduct in worshiping others, expressing it in the present tense, indicating that if they did that once, it would be extremely astonishing. So how is it when it is in the manner of renewal and continuity? And depicting their state further in making it more repulsive: 'And they worship' meaning the disbelievers 'besides' meaning from those whom they know are in rank below 'Allah,' the One who encompasses the attributes of greatness, whereby there is no harm or benefit except that it is in His hand.

And when this context is for enumerating His blessings, glorified is He, and the one who carries the human to submission is the hope for kindness or the fear of humiliation, and the hope for kindness brings him to the Benefactor in secret and in public, He preceded the benefit and said: 'What does not benefit them' meaning in any way.

And when fear only necessitates outward inclination, he followed his saying: 'And it does not harm them' meaning originally in the removal of a blessing from the blessings of Allah upon them, so there is no one more foolish than one who leaves the One in whose hand is all benefit and harm while he is immersed in His blessings, in his wakefulness and sleep, in his yesterday and today, and turns to one who has no benefit in his hand nor harm at all; and he made evident in the place of the pronoun a clarification for the description that carries to what no sane person would do, and he singled out their belittlement by saying: 'And the disbeliever' while knowing his weakness and incapacity.

And when the disbeliever cannot befriend a Muslim as long as he is a disbeliever, and his befriending of others occurs either by action or by force, his befriending of others is counted as nonexistence. Thus, his befriending is specifically with the allies of Allah, and that is more severe in his blame, as indicated by the precedence of the neighbor when he said: 'Against his Lord' meaning the Benefactor to him and no one else 'as a supporter' assisting the devils of mankind and jinn against the allies of Allah. And the expression 'against' indicates that although he is humiliating in himself, he is a despicable doer of the act of the strong against the thing that is powerful and overwhelming to him, the helper against it, from their saying: the back of the earth is for what rises above it and is thick, and a matter is evident to you, meaning overwhelming, and the evident is the strong and the helper. And that is because he makes for what he worships from the idols a share of what Allah alone created, then he also makes for it some of what he had named for Allah, and he opposes the allies of Allah from the prophets and others, and he sets traps and wars for them, and he harms them with words and actions, while knowing that Allah is with them for what they witness of Him breaking their returns. So this was the action of one who does not care about anything: 'Certainly they have been arrogant in themselves and have transgressed with a great transgression' [Al-Furqan: 21] 'And do not be arrogant against Allah' [Ad-Dukhan: 19] and it is in reality mockery of the disbelievers, for they do what necessitates this necessity which does not occur to the mind of any sane person.
