Commentary
So do not obey the disbelievers in what they intend of diverting you from calling upon it, by what they present of suggestions or they show you of flattery, or from the fear of a clear warning. They imagine that if you were to reduce it, they would hope to agree with you. And strive against them, meaning by calling upon it, meaning the Qur'an which has been previously mentioned in 'And We have certainly diversified it' [Al-Furqan: 50] by conveying its verses, whether they are glad tidings or warnings, and by arguing with its proofs. This is a great striving that encompasses all apparent and hidden struggles. For in that there is a great turning of many people towards you and their gathering around you, which strengthens your matter, and your affair becomes great, and their power weakens, and their pride is broken.
