And when He mentioned them by what He established in their nature of knowledge, He was astonished by every person of reason in a state of contradiction to what they have from observation. So He said, implying the doer as a reference to the disapproval of attributing this action to a specific doer as a reprimand for them and guidance for every listener to deny it from him, saying: "And they took" meaning they imposed upon themselves the worship of idols to be taken.
