Commentary
And when He, glorified and exalted is He, mentioned the youth's approach in changing the ruling of hijab, He followed it with the ruling regarding the youth's departure in revealing the apparent part of their clothing. He said: ﴿And the elderly women﴾ and affirmed the matter with His saying: ﴿from the women﴾, the plural of قاعِدٍ, which refers to the one who has ceased from childbirth and menstruation due to old age and from marriage. And since this latter is its core, He said: ﴿who do not hope for marriage﴾, meaning due to their lack of desire for it or because they have reached a stage where they are not desired in it. ﴿There is no blame upon them﴾, meaning no burden upon them in ﴿that they put aside their outer garments﴾, meaning the apparent garments over the concealing garments in the presence of men, as indicated by the reading of Ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him,
