Commentary
And when he clarified the ruling regarding children and slaves who are more obedient to the command and more receptive to every good, he followed it with the ruling of the mature among the free, saying: ﴿And when the children among you reach maturity﴾ meaning from your free ones ﴿the age of puberty﴾ meaning the age in which the discharge of semen occurs with the vision of intercourse in sleep, this is its origin, and what is meant is the age of absolute discharge. ﴿They should seek permission﴾ from others at all times ﴿as those before them sought permission﴾ regarding what was clarified in the beginning of the verses stating: ﴿Do not enter houses other than your own until you seek permission﴾ [An-Nur: 27]. Ibn Kathir reported from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir and Sa'id ibn Jubair that when a boy reaches the age of four, he seeks permission regarding the three private parts from his parents, and when he reaches puberty, he should seek permission in every situation.
And when the verses of seeking permission are the most effective in preventing the materials of evil, and leaving them is the greatest opening to the doors of trials, and since expressing the words in the rulings of the lawful and the unlawful, along with refinement and clarification, is ultimately very difficult, and weaning souls from what they are accustomed to is extremely hard, glorified is He indicated this by repeating the verse of clarification, indicating that it - due to its high status - is worthy of emphasis, and that the eloquent ones find it difficult to express themselves whenever they are called to this path. (p-313) He said: ﴿Similarly﴾ meaning like that clarification which he clarified in the verses of rulings ﴿Allah clarifies﴾ with His attributes of perfection ﴿for you﴾ along with what you have of the qualities of deficiency ﴿His verses﴾ meaning the signs indicating Him from these branches and what the fundamentals have risen to, so He added them to Himself, glorified is He, in magnification of them, indicating that they are a precursor to the divine verses, because whoever does not free himself from the disturbances of thoughts, has not soared to that height, and as an encouragement to reflect on what has preceded from them to bring to mind what they called for in terms of rulings, and what they separated with from admonitions, and as a reminder of what is in them of beneficial knowledge for religion and the world, and he increased in encouraging knowledge and wisdom indicating that this is the cause of all happiness, saying: ﴿And Allah﴾ meaning the All-Encompassing of everything ﴿is Knowing and Wise﴾. Al-Tabarani and others narrated from Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said: "When it was morning, I had a wet dream. I entered upon the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, and informed him that I had a wet dream, and he said: 'Do not enter upon women.' There has not come upon me a day more severe than it."
