And when this glad tidings was completed, the meaning was: So work and worship. He then added to it His saying: ﴿And establish the prayer﴾, meaning that it is the foundation of what is between you and your Lord. Although it is correct to connect it to His saying ﴿Obey Allah﴾ [An-Nur: 54], it would be from what is said in 'Say': ﴿And give the zakat﴾, for it is the system of what is between you and your brothers. ﴿And obey the Messenger﴾, meaning the one who encompasses the message in all that he commands you with, for it is by the command of your Lord. ﴿So that you may receive mercy﴾, meaning to be with the one who does not know the consequences, hoping for the attainment of mercy from the one who is truly the only merciful.
